The best cafes in Beechworth for riders and outdoor enthusiasts are not necessarily the most obvious. Yes you can do better than the bakery and there are a handful of good quality options, that are also rider, hiker and runner friendly. My favourite’s listed here, give a nod to the local and visiting rider community, in addition to serving excellent quality coffee and food.
Given Beechworth’s hub for mountain bikers riding the Beechworth MTB Park or Indigo Epic, gravel and road riders or even the growing trail running community, the need for quality pre and post activity café’s is greatly appreciated.
Having tried most of the options in town, this is my list of the best café’s in Beechworth for coffee, food that are rider & adventure enthusiast friendly.

Food and wine has and continues to be a key focus for North East tourism and Beechworth definitely punches above its weight. From award winning wine makers like Pennyweight, Sorenberg, A.Rodda to a two-hatted restaurant such as Provenance and an abundance of quality food and cafes in the region. It’s no wonder that this has become a key lever for the regional tourism board.
Coffee, mountain biking and long brunches
Coffee stops pre, mid or post ride is always an option and after visiting many of the cafes available in Beechworth, riding the Epic and laps at the Beechworth MTB park, the town has some solid options. All the cafes are accessible from the trails and gravel roads, with a short ride.
Some lean towards coffee only, others more food focused and a couple that nail a good balance of the two.
Why Beechworth suits adventure travellers
North East Victoria and Beechworth in particular, has benefited from an active positioning of the town as a cycle tourism destination. Setting the ground work over many years to gain funding and building trails, infrastructure and hosting cycle related events has made the town an attractive place to visit for riders.
Led by passionate locals, this growth of cycle tourism has provided an excellent base for other adventure tourists, such as those that enjoy trail running, hiking and snow sports. With this influx of specific tourists comes an opportunity for business to cater to this group, offering excellent food, beverage and rider specific accommodation in Beechworth.
You notice it in the town, when the main street is filled with cars and utes heaving with bike racks and bikes, groups of riding spilling out on the footpath, enjoying their post ride espresso or tables of mountain bikers at the brewery, fresh from an Indigo Epic lap.

In my opinion, as an avid rider and visitor, these are some of the best cafes in Beechworth for riders and adventure travellers. Those that offer excellent food and/or coffee and are welcoming of riders.
Project 49

After moving to their new location across the road a couple of years ago, enabling more space and utilising the laneway, Project 49 would have to be the pick for both coffee and breakfast options. Opening early at 7:30am, this café and food store has quality coffee and excellent food options. Inside is a deli/enoteca style featuring local and international food and drink. This curated selection of goods for sale would be more what you would expect in inner city Melbourne and now available in Beechworth. The venue allows for a tight, yet well thought through menu, as well as some excellent pre made selections of paninis and pastries to go.
Most days you will see bikes line the walls of the laneway or riders checking their Strava stats at the outdoor tables. There is also a long communal table inside, ideal for groups. Project 49 is a very popular café for the local and visiting riding community. The sourdough crumpets and flavoured ricotta is a standout, as to are the Porchetta and Mortadella paninis (if looking for a lunchtime option).

Tiny, as the name suggests is a small coffee and toasties place that has attracted a loyal following. With it’s friendly service and quality coffee, Tiny has become a favourite amongst riders and locals alike. As a coffee stop by day and bar at night, Tiny is somewhat of a contradiction, but seems to work. With a cocktail menu and DJ’s on decks on select evenings, makes this a popular location to start and end your ride. My favourite is the ‘Wang Show’, a cocktail as gaudy and over the top as the side show alley at the show.
After visiting this cafe in the last couple of weeks, I have adjusted the star rating from 4 to 5. The coffee was outstanding and one of the best you will get in Beechworth.
Tiny features outdoor seating to accommodate riders and early opening times. Tiny is a great option for those that are looking for a quality coffee hit, pre or post ride.
Little Nev

Little Nev is a coffee van located in the old forecourt of a service station, just up from Tanswell’s Hotel. The quality of the coffee is excellent (arguably the best coffee in Beechworth) using beans roasted in the region (Sixpence – Bright). The friendly service and quality drinks is a perfect coffee stop post-ride.
There are a few seats and benches, but mainly a take away or quick hit approach. If you are looking for a quality coffee stop, Little Nev is it. The propritory Michael is very friendly and personable, and knowledgeable of the town, and offers quality coffee and quick service.
Note the van is only open on weekdays, so if it fits your schedule or time in Beechworth, definitely check it out.

Bridge Road Brewers has been supporting riders of all disciplines for over 20 years. Celebrating their 21st year in 2026, the brewery has been a meeting place and location of multiple pre and post rides for road riders mountain bikers, gravel riders and the growing trail running community.
In addition to their fiercely independent range of beers and drinks, they also offer exceptional pizzas and quality pretzels. In winter they also do a Monday curry night. A unique take on brewery food in Beechworth
With riding merch for sale, riding event sponsors, town bikes to borrow and a bike wash station at the back, their support for riders is unquestionable. Add to that, the recent and popular running club, many adventure athletes have now found their home away from home.
The seating is expansive with multiple large outdoor tables in the courtyard, as well as seating inside the venue. Bridge Road Brewers offers an ideal environment for a post ride drink, lunch or dinner, to debrief the day’s activities.
Tanswell’s Hotel

An honourable mention is Tanswells which is just in front of the Brewery, on the main street with a traditional pub vibe, however with an elevated menu and cosy surrounds. Featuring a front bar with indoor & outdoor tables plus dining room with open fire make this a particularly cosy place in winter. Live music is also feature here with quality bands and DJ’s on Friday and Saturday nights.
Empire Hotel

Based on my experience, the town is welcoming of riders and adventure athletes, the quality of coffee and food is excellent and it makes for an ideal destination to visit.
