Have you considered Skiing at Seefeld? Super close to Innsbruck, via a short train journey, is the picturesque village of Seefeld. An ideal ski resort for 1-2 days, that caters well to beginner and intermediate skiers and riders.
Often voted one the most impressive ski villages the Seefeld experience delivers on an all round experience with quality skiing, great mountain huts for a traditional culinary experience and postcard worthy village with great connections.
Compared to some other resorts near Innsbruck, Seefeld offers an impressive alpine experience, with skiing above and below the tree line
Why Ski in Seefeld?
The Seefeld ski area is made up of 5 distinct areas of mainly beginner and intermediate runs, with a handful of more advanced terrain. The Rosshutte ski area, being the main ski area at Seefeld, has about 18Km of piste to ski/ride on.

If you are also into cross-country, the villages boast 245Km of cross-country ski trails to explore. These trails connect the 5 villages near Seefeld
Given the smaller nature of the resort, there are limited crowds here.
As mentioned, the physical beauty of the place in very impressive and Seefeld is often flagged as one of the most picturesque mountain village sin Austria.
The trails are pretty family friendly with the majority being Blue or Red graded ski runs. Ideal to progress on and still experience the rustic mountain hut experience that Austrian ski resorts have to offer.
Skiing Seefeld – Resorts and Terrain
There are 5 Seefeld ski resorts that are connected via buses and the Seefeld Ski pass. All offering a different experience and terrain.

For beginners and young families the three areas of Katzenkopf, Birkenlift & Geigenbuhel and Neuleutasch offering an ideal learning environment.
For more experiences skiers and riders the Gschwandtkopf and Rosshutte areas have a larger number of pistes and more challenging runs, beyond the bunny slopes.

Plenty of picture postcard accommodation in Seefeld. From large resort style offerings to smaller guesthouses and boutique hotels.
Parkhotel Seefeld
A short walk for the main village and train station is the 4 star Parkhotel Seefeld. A classic family run Austrian mountain hotel, with breakfast included, on-site restaurant and all the recovery facilities (pool and sauna) after a day on the hill.
Hotel Hayman
A well-appointed 3 star hotel in Seefeld the Haymon Hotel caters to guest needs. Another family run hotel, offering excellent Austrian alpine hospitality with a well-appointed hotel.
Hotel Helga
Another family-run three star hotel with excellent amenities. Hotel Helga has a restaurant, bar pool, sauna and ski room – everything to make your stay in Seefeld very pleasant.

Best time to Visit Seefeld.
If you schedule allows it, visiting just after the school term returns fro most European and UK schools will assist to avoid the holiday crowds. Think mid-January for avoiding crowds and capitalizing on peak snow conditions.

Most countries schools go back around Jan 6th with 2-3 weeks before some have late Jan breaks and Austria having Feb holiday break. Mid-Jan is ideal.
How to get to Seefeld
Travelling to Seefeld is pretty straightforward to get to, particularly if Innsbruck is your gateway city to Austria.
Train connections are plentiful and there are direct trains from Innsbruck to Seefeld. From the station you can then jump on the free ski bus that can take you directly to the Rosshutte lifts.
Getting Around Seefeld – Snow Bus
If you are arriving via train or staying near the central village and want to get to Rosshute, the free ski bus is easy to get. There are several stops, with a stop at bus terminal, right next the the train station.
We jumped on the Gelb Linie (the yelow line) that takes you to Rosshutte – about a 5 minute journey.
You can also get a bus to Gschwandtkopf via both the Yellow or Blue line.
Skiing Seefeld – Final Thoughts
We chose Seefeld for our family for the range of blue and red runs, ease of access out of Innsbruck and stunning village.

While there were other resorts closer to Innsbruck that used the Welcome Card ski bus, we felt that Seefeld was just right for all family members ski abilities, snow coverage on the day and perfect for a mid-Jan 2025 visit.
With various mountain huts to select for an Austrian fare stop, skiing above and below the tree line and great access. We would definitely recommend this resort for a nearby visit from Innsbruck for intermediate skiers and riders.
